Woman Sues West Jordan PD for Wrongful, Degrading Arrest

Sheri Meyer is suing the West Jordan police, alleging her rights were violated during a wrongful arrest at a hotel in September, where officers dragged her outside in handcuffs while she was partially undressed. The incident occurred at the MyPlace Hotel in the Wasatch Front community, south of Salt Lake City.

Meyer's lawsuit, filed in the 3rd Judicial Court, claims five officers infringed on her Fourth Amendment rights and falsely reported that she attempted to assault an officer. The West Jordan police have stated their belief that the officers followed procedure, with a formal review in progress.

The arrest stemmed from a noise complaint response. The officers, having mistakenly knocked on Meyer's door around 4 a.m., insisted she step outside while they searched her room, despite her partial nudity. They allegedly forced entry when she refused, handcuffing her on the bed. Although they found her alone, contradicting the original complaint of a noisy argument involving two people and a crying baby, they proceeded to drag her outside and restrain her in a WRAP body suit, leading to her passing out multiple times.

Meyer faced multiple charges, including assaulting officers, but these were later dismissed with prejudice by the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office after reviewing body camera footage. This footage, said to contradict the officers' claims, is currently withheld due to ongoing litigation.

Initially seeking an apology and compensation from the city, Meyer resorted to legal action after receiving no response, demanding damages for the traumatic experience.
