Hoover Police Detective Faces Charges for Damaging Uber, Public Misconduct in Birmingham

Hoover Police Detective Adam Shipley is facing multiple misdemeanor charges following an incident involving an Uber driver in Birmingham. According to the driver, Brantley Gerhardt, Shipley, who was allegedly intoxicated, damaged his car and acted inappropriately, including urinating in public.

Gerhardt, who was working in a busy area frequented by late-night party-goers, recounted how Shipley bumped into his car, breaking the mirror, before flashing his badge and acting belligerently. The situation escalated when Shipley reportedly grabbed Gerhardt's phone and threw it into the street.

When Birmingham Police arrived, they spent three hours at the scene, seemingly indecisive about arresting Shipley until he began urinating in front of them. Gerhardt, disturbed by the handling of the case, plans to press charges, noting the disparity in treatment he believes he would have received in a similar situation.

Hoover PD has confirmed that Shipley is now on administrative leave pending an investigation. Gerhardt has expressed his intention to pursue legal action for the damages and assault he claims to have suffered.
