Austin Police Department has placed Officer Christopher Taylor, who is facing murder charges, on administrative duty with pay.
Taylor is accused in the fatal shooting of Mike Ramos during his 2020 on-duty assignment. His trial in November ended in a mistrial due to the jury's inability to agree on a verdict.
Additionally, Taylor is implicated in another murder case involving the death of 46-year-old Mauris DeSilva.
A new trial date for Taylor has been set for September 23, 2024, but it remains unclear which of the two cases will go to trial first.
In a statement, the Austin Police Department explained that Taylor will now provide administrative support to bureau detectives, aligning his status with that of other indicted officers in the department.
